Erling Haaland Majin Buu Comparisons
Origin
Erling Haaland Majin Buu Comparisons is a fan-made lookalike joke pairing the Norwegian footballer with Super Buu, a Dragon Ball Z character. The supplied research documents an early artwork by X user DepalomitaOk on January 9, 2021, when Haaland played for Borussia Dortmund.
The comparison focuses on a familiar set of visual cues: blond hair, a broad build and expressive faces. It is not one fixed caption; it is a flexible image-edit and fan-art format.
Spread
The comparison continued through football and anime communities in edits, highlight-video jokes and side-by-side images. It could reappear whenever a new Haaland photo made the resemblance feel newly plausible.
By 2026, the supplied research records another burst of comparison posts and Haaland responding to the running joke in an Instagram comment: “I mean I don’t disagree.” The response became part of the meme’s appeal because it showed the subject recognizing the joke rather than rejecting it.
Why It Works
The format needs almost no setup: one athlete, one instantly recognizable anime villain and a visual resemblance. It also joins two large fan cultures, letting football viewers and Dragon Ball viewers use the same comparison in different ways.
