Meaning

In informal online and youth speech, skibidi is a flexible nonsense term that can describe something bizarre, chaotic, absurd, or strongly associated with meme culture. Depending on the speaker’s tone and the surrounding phrase, it may also signal approval, disapproval, surprise, or no specific meaning at all. It commonly evokes the animated web series Skibidi Toilet.

Origin and spread

Skibidi first became widely visible as the title and repeated nonsense vocal phrase of Little Big’s 2018 dance song and music video, which also inspired a viral dance challenge. The term gained a new and much larger online identity in 2023 when animator Alexey Gerasimov, known as DaFuq!?Boom!, launched the YouTube Shorts series Skibidi Toilet. The series turned a parody built around singing toilets and camera-headed characters into a major internet phenomenon, especially among younger viewers. As references to the series spread across YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms, skibidi broadened from a song-associated sound into intentionally unstable meme slang.

How to use it

Skibidi is highly informal and usually playful or ironic. Its meaning is often carried by voice, facial expression, or the surrounding joke, so the same phrase can sound approving, insulting, or meaningless. Younger speakers may use it as a meme reference, while older speakers often say it mockingly to imitate Gen Alpha slang. It is a poor choice when a precise description is needed.
