Jimothy the Raccoon

Jimothy the Raccoon is a character meme built around a distinctive raccoon seen in Seattle. The named format begins with @c1vrgr1's Instagram Reel from July 14, 2026: its caption calls the animal “Jimothy the raccoon” and adds the repeatable line “Praise Jimothy!!” When the Reel was checked on August 2, it displayed 434,000 likes and 4,201 replies.

The meme's identity comes from that combination of a recognizable animal, an ordinary human name, and mock-devotional language. The Reel is the verified origin of the named Jimothy format; it does not establish when the animal was first seen or filmed.

On July 16, @bwtrammell said a similarly unusual raccoon had appeared in the neighborhood almost daily for months and shared videos the account described as coming from the day of its first sighting. That is a first-person account, not independent proof of the animal's identity or the recording date. By August 2, the post displayed 224,000 likes and 2,694 replies.

The same day, Reddit's public r/JimothyTheRaccoon community was created. Its sightings, art, and discussions gave the meme a place organized around Jimothy as a continuing character rather than a single clip.

TikTok then carried both the local-animal story and the growing celebrity framing. A July 17 post from @jimothytheraccoon described Jimothy as a regular yard visitor; by August 6 it had reached 2.18 million views. A CBS Evening News post the next day presented the Seattle raccoon to a news audience and passed 1.24 million views, showing the name moving beyond the original Instagram context.

The next mutation treated Jimothy as a subject for original performance. Jared Ostrom's July 19 “A song for Jimothy” video accumulated more than 40,000 shares by August 6, a useful sign that the praise language could become music as well as captions.

Fan-edit culture expanded the character again. On July 22, @ferns.n.fawns posted an affectionate edit that reached 2.85 million views. Hours later, @cescaturd's Dracula-tagged CapCut version passed 625,000 likes, documenting how Jimothy could be carried into unrelated sounds, visual styles, and fandom references.

Public Bluesky posts continued the “praise be to Jimothy” wording while also discussing what increased attention could mean for the animal. Together with the dedicated subreddit, those reactions show two coexisting branches: celebratory character-making and concern about attention directed at a real neighborhood animal.

The repeatable mechanism is compact: keep Jimothy's recognizable appearance, use the unexpectedly formal human name, and frame ordinary raccoon behavior as something worthy of devotion or celebrity. “Praise Jimothy” turns a sighting into a reusable response.

Different media can preserve different parts of that mechanism. Sightings keep the real-animal character active; songs and edits amplify the mock reverence; drawings, coins, and crossover art translate the same named figure into fan-made objects and fictional settings.
