Sonion

Sonion is the kind of reaction image that explains itself one beat late: an altered version of Anthony Mackie’s smirking face sits in an onion, and “son” slides into “onion.” It belongs to the larger “Son 😭😭😭😭😭” family, whose edited Mackie image, single-word address, and crying emojis became ingredients that later variants could rearrange.

The earliest located public Sonion example is a six-second TikTok from @thecoolibroski, posted February 9, 2026, with the caption “Sonion no cry.” That upload establishes a documented starting point, not an absolute origin: it makes no claim to have created the composite, and the underlying artist remains unidentified.

By March 15, Sonion had become portable. A Tenor upload packaged the onion-and-face image as a reusable GIF labeled “Sonion,” moving the joke beyond one short post and into a standalone reaction asset.

Ten days later, “Sonion Ring” showed that the pun mattered more than a fixed body. Its creator put a fried onion ring on a man’s head and printed the expanded name underneath, preserving the verbal hook while replacing the whole onion.

On March 28, @the.67.meme_poster—whose canonical URL still uses @memes_6741—published an eight-second video captioned “sonion.” The post used a separate original sound credited to EvilngerAlt and had 372,100 views when checked on August 11, adding a second directly verified Sonion-labeled TikTok beyond the February example.

A parallel video branch developed from different source material. On March 1, @greenscreens4memes posted Tom Tucker walking in slow motion as an “aura farming” green-screen template. On March 29, @meenvon reused that post’s sound in a Family Guy and Minecraft remix captioned “Son 😭✌️,” providing the clearest direct example in the packet of Sonion-related language becoming attached to the Tom Tucker clip.

By May 19, a Know Your Meme collection was presenting Sonion alongside many other “Son” mutations. That later recognition confirms its place as a named branch of the remix family, alongside the directly verified February and March TikToks, reusable GIFs, and Tom Tucker video mutation.

The format has three compact, repeatable parts: a recognizable distorted face, the sound “son,” and a deliberately obvious substitution. The first Sonion post could add mock consolation—“no cry”—while the GIF made the result reusable, “Sonion Ring” swapped in a new onion form, and the Tom Tucker branch retained the verbal cue even after abandoning the original vegetable image. Recognition therefore survives through partial continuity rather than faithful copying.
