Meaning
In informal internet slang, ate means performed, created, or handled something extremely well. It is usually a strong compliment for a song, dance, outfit, makeup look, speech, joke, comeback, or other successful effort. The term often appears in phrases such as ate that up and ate and left no crumbs.

Ate is the ordinary past-tense form of eat, but its modern slang sense is a figurative extension used as praise. Merriam-Webster traces ate and the fuller ate and left no crumbs to New York City’s Ballroom scene, a Black and Latino LGBTQ+ subculture, and says the expressions began appearing on social media in the mid-2010s. The food imagery was later made explicit in the longer phrase: doing something so successfully is compared with consuming a meal so completely that no crumbs remain. The exact first use of the slang sense and the identity of its first coiner are not securely documented.
