The exact person who transferred the word to hot dogs is unknown. The connection was likely encouraged by the similar elongated shapes of a hot dog and a pistol magazine, as well as by deliberately suggestive wordplay. The term spread far beyond the D.C. area through memes and TikTok trends around 2020.[1]
