A large adolescent chat corpus whose collection began in 2007 later treated “ofc” as a well-known English chat abbreviation. The shorthand remained useful as casual conversation moved from forums and instant messaging to texts, group chats, and social media.
How to use it
OFC is informal and fits best in texts, DMs, comments, gaming chats, and relaxed workplace channels. Its tone depends heavily on context: “ofc!” can sound enthusiastic, while “ofc he did” may sound dry or sarcastic. Some readers interpret the F as adding an expletive, so the abbreviation can seem sharper than intended. In fanfiction, uppercase OFC may instead mean “original female character,” and it has additional specialized meanings outside internet slang.
