Feels Guy

Feels Guy is the original Wojak: a rough black outline of a bald man with a tired, wistful expression. The drawing's exact creator is unknown. The earliest appearance supported here is a December 16, 2009 Sad and Useless archive of an MS Paint party comic; accounts of its earlier path place a file called ciepła twarz (“warm face”) on the Polish imageboard Vichan.

A poster using the name Wojak carried the face to Krautchan's international board. An archived April 26, 2010 post shows it attached to a personal story and the phrase “that feel,” helping turn one person's avatar into a reusable reaction image.

The face moved through Pastachan, Dobrochan and 4chan. By 2011, two Wojaks hugging under “I know that feel bro” gave it a new job: not just private sadness, but solidarity between people sharing the same miserable experience. “That feel when,” soon shortened to TFW, made the drawing a compact emotional caption system.

Wojak then became less a single character than a drawing language. Crying Wojak, Brainlet and pairings with Pepe changed the emotion; 2018's Doomer and NPC attached whole online identities to the same face. The NPC wave even crossed into mainstream political coverage after Twitter suspended roughly 1,500 accounts using the gray variant in 2018.

Later figures such as Coomer, Doomer Girl, Soyjak and countless custom ‘-jaks’ turned the template into a cast for arguments, self-portraits and subculture stereotypes. That adaptability is why the deliberately crude 2009 face still feels current.

The drawing is specific enough to read as quietly hurt but simple enough to become anyone. A few altered lines can change age, politics, lifestyle or mood without losing the family resemblance.

Use classic Feels Guy for melancholy, regret, loneliness or wordless recognition. Use its descendants when the joke needs a recognizable personality rather than a generic reaction.
