This Is Fine

This Is Fine is the two-panel reaction image of a dog calmly drinking coffee while the room burns. It comes from K.C. Green’s Gunshow comic #648, posted on January 9, 2013; the full comic continues past the famous cropped panels.

The line is not a genuine reassurance. In meme use, it signals denial, resignation, or an attempt to keep a polite face while a problem is visibly getting worse.

Text on the image: “THIS IS FINE.”

The first two panels circulated as a self-contained reaction image and fit personal stress, workplace failures, breaking news and political arguments. The joke needs little rewriting because the flames already establish the contradiction.

In 2016 the format moved conspicuously into political conversation after the Republican National Committee used it during the Democratic National Convention; Green objected to that use. Adaptations keep changing the dog or the setting, but the original pose remains the reference point.

It compresses panic and forced composure into one instantly readable scene. The unchanged phrase is what makes each new crisis feel like another version of the same joke.
