Meaning
LOML is an informal initialism for “love of my life.” It usually refers to a romantic partner or the person someone considers their deepest love, but online it is also used hyperbolically for a close friend, celebrity, pet, favorite food, hobby, or other beloved thing.[3]

LOML is formed from the initial letters of “love of my life,” following the broader texting habit of compressing familiar phrases into initialisms. A text-and-chat acronym list available by May 17, 2010, records “LOML” with that expansion, showing that the shorthand was already circulating by then, although its exact coinage is unknown. It later became common in captions, messages, and social-media posts. Taylor Swift’s 2024 song “loml” brought extra attention to the spelling by using the familiar phrase as a setup for the song’s closing idea of “loss of my life,” but that song is a later cultural use rather than the origin of the initialism.
How to use it
In a message such as “you’re my LOML,” the term usually sounds intensely affectionate and may imply serious romantic commitment. In captions such as “pizza is my LOML,” it is clearly playful exaggeration. Because the phrase carries emotional weight, using it casually about a new acquaintance can sound overly dramatic or insincere. It is best kept to informal texts, chats, captions, and social posts rather than professional writing.
