GigaChad

GigaChad is the exaggerated final form of the Chad archetype, represented by heavily stylized black-and-white photographs of model Ernest Khalimov. Photographer Krista Sudmalis made the images for her Sleek'N'Tears art project, which was online before the meme gave Khalimov a new identity.

A link to the project's Instagram reached r/bodybuilding on October 15, 2017. The first preserved post to call the figure “Gigachad” appeared on 4chan's /pol/ board on October 16, describing him as a supposedly perfect human specimen. That date is the earliest supported meme use here.

The nickname jumped the same day to Lookism Forums as “Ultra Chad,” then to Imgur and Reddit. A February 2018 r/Bossfight post and later lore-heavy macros made Khalimov the impossible standard above the older Virgin vs. Chad hierarchy; the extreme retouching also fueled a running question over whether he was real.

The decisive second wave arrived in 2021. Socialism Done Left's February 7 “Average Evidence Fan” video paired a frantic itz me Fraz clip with a calm GigaChad slideshow and Bring Me the Horizon's “Can You Feel My Heart.” Copies turned the face and song into shorthand for the confident ‘average enjoyer,’ then into a general sign of approval.

On April 13, 2021, the berlin.1969 Instagram account finally acknowledged the memes, said it liked them and opened comments. That unusually warm response softened the character from an exclusionary body ideal into a flexible compliment: online, anyone making the admired choice can become the GigaChad.

The portrait looks almost computer-generated: monumental jaw, impossible shoulders, calm smile. That visual excess makes both sincere praise and ironic overconfidence legible before any caption.

Use GigaChad to approve a bold choice, portray someone as unbothered and self-assured, or exaggerate an opinion as the obvious winner.
