Hi, Welcome to Chili’s
Origin
“Hi, welcome to Chili’s” is the greeting at the center of Adam Perkins’s three-second Vine: he walks into a bathroom in his boxers and delivers the line with an unusual posture and facial expression.

Open on provider site: NoChillAustin — hi welcome to chilis vineDigitalCultures traces the greeting to a 2007 U.S. Chili’s commercial; The Independent describes Perkins’s clip as mocking the restaurant chain’s advertisements.
Perkins’s Vine was posted and went viral in 2015, though the available accounts do not establish its exact posting date.
Spread
While Vine was active, the clip was extensively remixed; DigitalCultures says its popularity declined after the platform shut down, though the quote remained recognizable. Perkins later posted on TikTok, studied music composition at New York University, and released the 2018 album *Latch Relay* as Plas Teg; a Tenor listing separately documents a 3.6-second GIF version created in 2017.
In 2019, Chili’s and agency O’Keefe Reinhard & Paul adapted “Hi, Welcome to Chili’s” for the ChilEASE delivery campaign, presenting customers’ homes as extensions of the restaurant and personalizing the greeting with customers’ names; digital spots showed welcome mats bearing those names. LBB reported that campaign elements were scheduled to roll out from October through December.
Perkins died on April 11, 2021, aged 24; his twin brother Patrick announced the death on Instagram on April 13, and fans and other Vine creators shared tributes, including posts with the Chili’s Vine. Chili’s also paid tribute, and Patrick said he planned to release Perkins’s 2018 album *Latch Relay* on limited-edition vinyl; Know Your Meme reported that the planned release was through Plas.teg records.
In an April 16, 2021 account, The Independent reported that Patrick Perkins asked people to stop requesting his brother’s cause of death, saying the decision not to disclose it was intentional and asking followers to respect it.
Chili’s announced in March 2020 that it would join TikTok as @chilisofficial on March 6, pointing to thousands of existing Chili’s videos and millions of platform mentions. Its #ChilisBirthday challenge invited users to make videos featuring someone surprised by the restaurant’s birthday song, with gift cards offered as prizes.
Why It Works
The clip opens on an ordinary bathroom: a toilet with its seat down, a Blackalicious poster above it, a counter with grooming and contact-lens items, and shelves of toiletries. That domestic setting frames the restaurant greeting that follows.
