Y U NO

Y U NO Guy is a rage-comic character for exaggerated frustration. Its bulging eyes and contorted mouth were traced from a panel in chapter 55, “Naked King,” of Hiroya Oku's manga Gantz, first published in Japan in February 2002. Fan tracings circulated after an English version appeared in 2009.

The recognizable meme formula arrived on Tumblr around 2010, although the exact upload date is no longer recoverable. A post attributed to LOLTumblrWallpapers placed the face on a beige background with tiny outstretched arms and the caption “I TXT U, Y U NO TXT BAK!?”; surviving accounts say it collected more than 10,000 notes.

Within weeks, Tumblr blogs and Meme Generator filled with variants following the same loose grammar: address a person, object or institution, then demand “Y U NO” perform an obvious action. The character joined Trollface, Forever Alone and Me Gusta in the shared visual language of early-2010s rage comics.

The catchphrase escaped the picture. “Y U NO?” appeared in YouTube comments, Omegle chats, DeviantArt reaction accounts and later advertising, while edits dressed the face as fictional characters or replaced its head entirely. By late 2011 the format had peaked, but its sentence pattern remained readable long after rage comics faded.

The broken-text demand is short enough to fit any complaint. The desperate face and imploring arms make a trivial inconvenience look like a moral emergency.

Use it to mock unanswered messages, bad product design, everyday contradictions or any target that refuses to do the supposedly obvious thing.
